Hi, Could anyone please advise how to fit a red 6 cyl head to a blue block? I want to run a good blue bottom end, counter crank etc, in my torana, with my old red head. Need to run the red head so I can run the 150cds and cast headers. I have split the block in the red 186 motor. I think there are some holes that have to be blocked and some drilled, but I'm not 100% on it. Any help would be appreciated, Regards Simon

Get a red head gasket lay it on the block you will see some water jacket holes that don't line up. Drill them out and fill the original holes in the block.
If you use the blue block you will have to change all your emission control gear to the same as th

Hi, thanks for that, much appreciated. I used blue crank in JL 202 red block back in 1980s, I think from memory, used a neoprene rear main , not sure if that was because the blue crank needed neoprene, not rope.

Other way round - the blue crank needs a rope seal unless you machine the scroll off for a neoprene seal.

Thanks Byron, couldn't recall which way we did it. Just recall it cost a lot, had to buy the crank from GMH, as blue sixes were only just out, none in the wreckers at that time,

Interesting combo, usually people put 12 port heads (better porting) on red blocks (pre pollution & quicker revving cranks)

Hi Peter, yes, different to some. I like the blue crank with the counterweights, and I have a red cyl head that is pretty wild. Also, I can still use my xu-1 carbs and cast headers on the red head. Might sound strange, but it works for what I need. Regard

It's much easier to stick the blue crank and rods into a red block.

i have put the counterweighted crank into a red block before, from memory (long time ago) had to machine the main journals 300 thou. and that was it.

Only if it's into a 186 block. It will fit straight into a 202.

The wild red head will get the revs up quicker with the red crank. The blue crank may be counterweighted, but it is also heavier and less responsive to revs. It's your motor, go for it.
