Hi guys. I've got an lj torana with a pissy little 138 in it. I'm looking at reconditioning a 202 and giving it some grunt. Just interested if anyone can give any tips on what to modify and replace or what not to do. As far as the gearbox goes its got a 3 speed auto powerglide. Any ideas on what to replace it with? Any help will be very much appreciated.
Thanks

No such thing as a 3-speed powerglide. Probably a trimatic, which should be fine for a 202. The easiest combo is a blue/black 202 crank and rods in a rope seal red 202 block. Fit 186S induction and exhaust manifolds and a yella terra or similar head with

Or go for a black head they have pretty good porting and larger valves. don't forget to upgrade the torque convertor to bump the stall speed to get full advantage. A Gemini one will do nicely.

No. There is no such thing as a 6cyl M21. Well there was but if you find one sell it to an XU-1 owner and buy 10x M20 or M22 6cyl 4-speeds.
And yes, a 6cyl aussie 4-speed will bolt in exactly where the trimatic does. Just copy what was in an LJ and you'r

Hi Guys.

The A9X Toranas had the M21 from the factory, these cars are V8s, not sixes. The racecars got the MC7 B-W Super T10.

It a bit confusing using the terms M20/M21/M22 etc. because the one number can refer to many different boxes.

The M20 nu

Hi Zac.

That's precisely the problem.

The M21 was a Saginaw from 1968 to mid-1971 & then an Aussie 4-speed from mid-1971 onwards.
