G'day Guys,

Just mulling over a few ideas....

Im running a 76 HX 308 (carby) on PULP 98 or 95, and if driving with the windows down, it is a bit fumey. Now it may not be in a good state of tune, but it runs OK. About to do some work and get it tuned while im at it, but as its a daily driver, im thinking of doing some things to quieten the beast, and make the fumes better (smelling and on the environment / people).

I find if im going around town, I can get a bit of a sore throat from the Fumes, which is a pain in the ass, and im probably poisoning myself with Carbon Monoxide.....

I'm running a dual 2.5inch setup with Genie headers, there are mufflers there, but dont know how good they are. As i do shift work, im not gonna be too popular starting the v8 up at midnight in the 'burbs.

Was considering adding 2 cat converters and either replacing the mufflers or adding a pair in tandem, all the while trying to keep the performance up...

Any suggestions? also any idea of cost? is it worth it? or could it just be running rich?

P.s I know i dont need a cat as its pre-pollution, but if it makes the fumes less smelly, and better for you, then it could be worth it.

Antoher option is to add some 2.5 inch 'Resonators' to the end of the existing exhaust system.

Anyone ever done this on a v8, see them on Ricers all the time, dunno if it makes it quieter or just a different tone...

I had the same thought, as a pannie driver with the back open it stinks, dont do it, cats will become clogged with a rich running carby. only good for efi. and yes you are killing yourself, todays petrol is overpriced cancer. I went with a rochester set up

The VL Commodore with a proper Holden engine (ie the 5.0L) was standard with a 304/308 running a quadrajet and catalytic converter, setup for ULP. Copy it's setup. The only real difference between a VL 5litre and a HX 308 is the VL has large valves and lo

I know what you mean with exhaust on the van , I had mine changed so it comes out the side behind the wheel which helps.
