i wish to rebuild a 186 i have an ht monaro but wish to keep the original engine but wish to make it go a bit harder any suggestions on a setup it has a 2 speed powerglide hope to put twin exhausts any help would be appreciated.

You've got a good starting point there.

My suggestion would be a nice cam, a good sized carby (350 Holley, Weber, Twin strombergs..), a set of extractors and a good flowing exhaust. If you want that bit more, get yourself some thermofans and a custom

186 has a 1/4 race cam any more sounds to lumpy. lighten the flywheel.lose the auto sucks power big time. perfomance manifoild. better carb.lose the fan get electric fan fit electronic ignition or twin point job been there done that you love it

think twice about a twin exhaust, quite often they sound like a drawn out wet fart on a red 6...2-2 1/4" single pipe may be better, depending on how hot your motor is.

If you must keep the block, get a blue/black 202 crank and grind the mains and seal journal down to suit the earlier block. Use blue/black rods with new SJ Chev rod bolts and 202 pistons and balance it. This will give you a 202 which means extra grunt. Ge

Quadzilla - why the hell would you spend $2500 - 4500 stroking a 186 when you could buy a stong 253 for what would be probably the price of the 186 itself? why? why?

i'd rather push a holden than drive a ford
