Can anyone positively identify the starters in the following picture?

The left one was out of a low mile HG 308. You can't see it in the photo but the alloy end is solid and smooth with no ribs between the end and the stator housing. You can just see the ribbing i'm referring to on the RH example. It also has no rib on the cast iron stator housing.

The centre one is red motor I think by the number of them I have. Both the left one and the centre have the same side mount tab.

The right one is a mystery. It was in a HZ 253 red motor 1-tonner. The solenoid is at a different angle to the others and the centre line of the armature is about 8-10mm closer to the block mounting face. The side tab is also shorter. You can also clearly see the difference in end ribbing on all three examples.

I've always wondered about the red vs blue motor starter motor interchangeability question. Lots of people have told me that blue/black starters work on red motors but not the other way around. Something to do with the angle of the starter. Perhaps the RH unit is a blue motor one? I always thought the Commodore units had a cradle at the rear for the side support - i've never seen a side tab on a blue motor starter.

Hi Guys.

People have always misinterpreted when the starter change took place.

When the VB Commodore was released GM-H changed the V8 starter slightly in 2 areas. They changed the angle of the solenoid position & they moved the axis upwards but foll
