G'day all,

Spent a lovely couple of hours in the shed last night with the quadrajet down to it's undies again.........

Had a bit of a splutter Sunday, then broke down badly Monday morning trying to merge into 90kmh traffic. Normally this thing runs as sweet as and just scoots when you boot it.

Found a bit of carbon in the idle ports (think that's what they're called) in the primaries, but other than that nothing that would indicate major filth. It is sucking this crap up from the EGR valve.

I ran it pretty low on fuel on Saturday, and it was a bit of a bitch to start Sunday morning. Backfired through the carb, then took a fair while to fire up. Normally it kicks first turn.

Anyway, put the carb back together and went for a blat around the block, and it was still missing/breaking down under hard acceleration uphill.

Only thing I can think of is the s***ty cheap fuel filter I am using (universal no name brand). It looks clean, but how sensitive to crap are these things? And what suggestions for a brand of fuel filter does everyone have?

Cheers
Kev

You can also use a z200 fuel filter. These filters are designed for EFI systems so they have a finer filter medium but they work well on carb systems.

Since I posted originally, have had a couple of developments. Put a new fuel filter in, didn't make any difference. Changed the needle and seat for another good one I had in the shed. No difference.

Decided this morning to grab another quaddy my brothe

.........If not, you're walkin' :D

Good to see you managed to diagnose it, although it was a painful process!

Cheers,
