Can you tell us why our aussie v8,s have a differant firing order to the chevs? I was under the impression that when we designed our home growen v8 that it was based on the chev and modified to suit our needs and better engineering spec's. And the new firing order was a better ballanced gas flow etc.. I personally beleive that our v8 is a better motor its a shame gmh didn't carry on production in stead of this free trade stuff and ballancing the import/ export books.

Hi crowe.
It's an urban myth, that the Holden 253/308 was based on the SB Chev. AFAIK there is not one interchangeable component or design similarity.
The 253/308 V8 design commenced in 1963 as a 'clean sheet' design, when the SB Chev was still a re |

I have heard that some parts of our 253/308 are interchangable with some Buick V8's. The inlet manifold springs to mind although I have never tried it myself.

Couple of interchangeable items at introduction:
Rods use the same spec rod bolts as a SJ SBC (later X and A9L rods use LJ SBC rod bolts). Rear main seal. Valve springs (not identical springs weights though). Not sure about lifters (can't remember). |

Hi Guys.
Lifters are not exactly the same, I think the relaxed height is different. Many engine builders warn not to use Chevy lifters in Holden V8s.
The manifolds are not even vaguely similar to any model Buick engine. As Byron says the rod bolts |
