Hi all,

I have a conventional oil-filled can type ignition coil (HEI tall tower type). I am just wondering if these can be mounted horizontally? The reason I ask is that my old coil (transformer type - no oil) is mounted under the dash horizontally and it would be a pain to mount the new can-type vertically. I'm worried that if mounted horizontally that some of the coil windings will be uncovered from the oil in the can. Can anybody suggest if it is in fact ok to mount horizontally?

Cheers,

Paul

P.S. The coil I'm using is an MSD Blaster 3 HEI coil.

Hi Paul

Yes, it is OK to mount the old style coil horizontally, that's the way they're mounted on factory Blue/Black V8 motors.

Regards.

Thanks for the reply Dr Terry. I was quite worried when I read a warning on the MSD website not to mount the coil (oil-filled type) horizontally so as not to expose some of the windings. I guess is a stock HEI coil was mounted horizontally (as you have in
