G'day guys, heard the VN-VR V6 has a plastic restrictor towards the back (firewall) of the engine. Is anyone sure of what this looks like and exactly how to remove it?

I think your talking about the bellmouth (It's a oval shape length of plastic) in the intake manifold. Its mounted via the 3 mounting bolts for the rear 90 degree bend just after the throttle body. All you do is unbolt the bend with the throttle body and

I always thought it was the other way round (depending on whether I have read the last line of your reply above the correct way Retro)...the early V6's (without the deflector) ran the front 2 cylinders too lean which caused some (but not all) of the drama

Street Commodores mag did a how-to article on it, with before & after testing.

On the dyno it made no difference with it in or out, but seat of the pants feel was that it was a bit more responsive - albeit a little touchy & raucious (but then what VN-V

I believe the bellmouth came in mid November '90 with the series2 (in my workshop manual) and then carried through. Was an attempt to help give more air to the front 2 Cyl's as dave pointed out...problem with series1
