PLEASE ADVISE ME ON (1)HAVE TOYOTA 5 SPEED ON BACK OF 186, STEEL CASED ONE BUT STILL HAVE 173 DIFF SHOULD I FIT 186 DIFF OR LEAVE 173 IN WHAT IS BEST COMBINATION. (2) THINK THE CROSS MEMBER HAS BEEN BENT TO ALLOW FITTING OF G/BOX SO SUSPECT ENGINE IS SLOPPING REARWARDS COULD ANYBODY GIVE ME THE MEASUREMENT FROM A STRAIGHT EDGE ACROSS THE FRONT GUARDS SLID UP TO BONNET HINGES DOWN TO TOP OF ENGINE BLOCK (3) RUNNING ON L.P.G. SO DO I NEED TO FIT UPPER CYLINDER LUBE KIT. THANKS ROD

Hi Rod,
1) There is no real difference between a 173 and a 186 diff. What ratio is your current diff? I'd think a 3.36 or 3.08 would be good for your purposes.
2) The engine should lean back at about 3 degrees with car level.

thanks very much dave,have a 3.55 : 1 diff at moment but think the g/box works well with this combination ? the imho is this the morleys uper cylinder lubricant.rod

3.55 and 5 speed is a good combination. The 186 will struggle to push 5th and a 3.08 diff. |

I purchased a 202 red with blue crank and rods for my LC GTR (You suggested this combination a while back). I have also purchased a Celica 5-speed and conversion kit. Neither is yet fitted. The car has a 3.08 diff. Will the 202 have sufficient t

Hi David.
Yes, the 202 will drive the 3.08 in 5th, if you keep the camshaft very mild (at or near stock), to maintain the low down torque you will need with that gearing.

Depends on the car Byron. In an LJ, a 186/5 speed/3.08 would be fine for a relatively stock motor. For an HQ, you are right, the better choices will be a 3.55 or 3.36.

You are correct. Also depends upon tyre size. I had a stock 202 and W55 in a HJ with a 3.55. 5th gear combo was excellent with 235/60/14 tyres. |

thanks guys all good info,now (1) any way to get the speedo to read some thing like after fitting toyota box (2) have been told that if i fit rocker cover from h.j. or latter to h.q. the extra pipe from rocker cover to air filer cove
