Hi everyone i'm sure this has been discussed before but i need my 253 rebuilt my main aim is for a daily driver with reasonable fuel economy and good v8 sound any advice welcome especially on cam and manafold/carby options. Have heard edelbrock performer manafold with either rochester or holley 465, which of these would be best or any other options? also which is easier to tune or stay tuned

Thanks for all your help

4 barrel manifold of a HQ-HJ/LH 308, rochester quadrajet with 253 needles and a blue motor HEI dizzy. If you want economy AND power, look seriously at an injected 304 out of a VN/VP.

Hi all,

I have done some testing on the Quaddie aspect on a 253. yes they work. Economy..hmm,,even with smaller jets its an issue. The tests I have done say the 253 hasnt enough revs or air flow to make the quad do its thing off the mark. Head for head

I have a stock VH 253 with the 4 barrel manifold and quad, do you recommend going back to the earlier 2 barrel manifold and a 350 Holley?

Look for a cam with wider lobe centres. 112 - 114 degrees, duration no bigger than [email protected]", probably closer to 210. Aim for around 10-1 compression ratio. A set of tri Y extractors and a dual system with at least a balance pipe, an X pipe is better if d

Sounds OK. But you could save money by finding a good secondhand HT-HJ or LH manifold. They flow almost equivalent to a Performer. Then stick the Holley or Quadrajet on it. I think Hume the divorced choke quadrajets rebuilt for $300.
