I've had a long term problem with my steering in the hj(6 cyl) and last week decided to do something about it, so i took it to the mechanic my old man always takes the cars to (family friend)and he told me that the left hand hower steering arm is broken, he asked me to get one and he'll fix it for me.

Just wondering if there are any other place i can buy them besides a wreckers(preferably not 2nd hand)what price would be reasonable for one of these, if i have to buy 1 2nd hand what things should i look for? any one with photos?

Thanx guys

Is that the bit bolted to the chassis? It's called an idler arm. you can buy them new for $19 to $30. Pays to replace I had one break on me, fortunately I was just going out the driveway at the time so no other damage.

um... my old man jut said it's the lower streering arm, so i jumped straight on here and posted up. I just looked in the repair manual and i realise theres no such part. So i rang the guy back and he told me it's the tie rod that needs replacing.

Hi 10000_fists.

I think he means tie rod end, not just the tie rod. In an HQ to WB steering linkage the tie rod is just a steel bar with a thread at each end, it doesn't wear. The joints at each end of the tie rod are tie rod ends, these do wear & ther

If it's just the tie rod end then duck into supercheap as I think they have about 40% off the power max brand at the moment (they had that 20% off sale on the weekend but now I see some gear upto 40% off). Should only cost you around $10-15 each, may pay
