Hi,
I know, I know, this is strictly a ford question, but it's for my Holden, and I don't know much about fords, so I figured I'd try for some "local" education before heading to the ford forums and looking like an idiot...
I'm running air con in my Torana and HQ, and since both 202s have the standard Stromberg carbies, neither have an idle solenoid. I just set the idle up around 900, and it handles the air con cutting in and out ok.
Now, my dyno tuner recommended getting the idle solenoid off an XD carby, as you can make an easy adapter for it, and simply give it the 12v input to the compressor as a signal and it boosts your idle when required.
My question is... are the XD Carbies as simple, cheap, and widely available as the Holden Strombergs? Or are they a rare item that I'll never find?
Cheers, Jason.

I may be wrong, but I'm pretty sure the XD used a 32/36 Downdraft 2bbl Weber carby, and from all indications - were a very good unit.

XD's used a single barrel Strommy, IIRC. The XE's went to the Weber which is a good acrb for a red motor.
Sorry Jason, I don't know the answer to your basic query mate...
Cheers...Dave

Hi Jason.
I'm not sure what you're trying to achieve here.
The XD (as well as the XC) crossflow 6 cyl Fords use a Bendix-Stromberg carby similar to the unit seen on HX/HZ/LX/UC/VB 6 cyl (anti-pollution) Holden motors. (It's the XE & XF thast use the |

Thanks for the replies, guys. It does sound like I've been given a bit of a bad steer.
Dr Terry - I am trying to do exactly as you describe. Have a nice low idle with no air-con, but boost the idle when the compressor cuts in. Currently I'm running

Hi jason.
If the a/cond pulls the idle RPM from 900 down to 550, the cam is bigger than you think it is or you have a vacuum, idle mixture or carby problem.
