Not specifically related to holdens, but though some of you may be able to shed some light on the theory behind mounting engines on a slant. For example. Supra and Soarer engines with a 15 degree angle or Chrysler Slant 6's? Thanks

From the Chrysler slant 6s, I'm sure it was because the engine was an older and quite tall design, and when car design became flatter and lower they had to tilt the engine so it could fit under the bonnet!

Entirely a styling decision. Allows a much lower bonnet line as the top of the engine/carby is lower. Although I suppose it does allow a bit more aerodynamics with a lower front.

the theory was also to counteract engine load charactristics. that is when you rev an engine it twists on the mounts from passangers side to drivers side and all slant engines are slanted towards the passenger side (this is rhdrive cars) also is suppose t

my Dads beemer is slanted towrads the drivers side. go figure

i had a slant 6 in a vc val that was slanting towards drivers side

If anyone is interested, i have found that a few manufacturers do it to slightly lower the COG of the vehicle too. Thanks for responses.

DO you mean engines mounted on a slant, or engines such as the mopar slant 6?
the mopar slant 6's cylinders/head go off on an engle relative to the bottom end.

In the northern hemisphere they slant clockwise, in the southern they slant anticlockwise ......

Valiant and Torana slant engines do slant to the drivers side.

Hi Jim.
If you're referring to the Torana LC/LJ/TA 1600/1760 OHC slant motors, these slant to the passenger's side.
From what I have heard, the two main reasons for slanting the engine is for a lower bonnet line & lowering the centre of gr
