G'day guys couple of questions regarding a V6 VR as usual. I'm looking at flushing the cooling system. 1) The service manual says to refill with something like 4 liters of 1 fluid, 3 liters of another fluid, a couple of pellets etc. Then when filling coolant reservoir, use half water and half coolant. So I'm just wondering, to fill the cooling system from scratch, what should I use? 2) Is there any tips on how to drain/fill/bleed? Ie bleeding/draining points. Just a general how to. 3) Finally, what sort of coolant should I use? The engine has done 260,000kms. Thanks again guys! Edited by user Saturday, 12 August 2006 4:11:20 AM(UTC)

Hi VL05.
Coolant flushing & usage is just as important as changing your oil in a modern car (so is changing brake fluid, but that's a topic for another day.
The easiest way to change coolant in a Holden V6 is firstly turn the heater control to 'hot' |
If at first you don't succeed, just call it Version 1.0 |

The only thing I could add to the above, is to use only top quality coolant in a V6 especially.
Forget the cheap diluted stuff.

One important thing to do when replacing the coolant and going to the flushing stage is to check the radiator cap.Firstly always work on removing it when the engine is cold. Check the cap and particularly the valve flap on the bottom.Remove any fine dirt

Also make sure you replace you coolant regularly.
All coolants without exception deteriorate over time.
Many of them will become corosive after they have broken down.
Annualy is a good idea, but every two years at the outside.
