What are some cheap and easy methods to squeeze power out of a 253?
Naturally aspirated of course.

Nothings cheap but a few bolt ons will help. I had a manual 253 Torrie back in the 70s and it ran 14.8 @ 98 at Castlereigh in Sydney
with the following mods:
Stock heads
Edelbrock Torker
600 Holley
Sig Erson Hi-R-1H Cam 33/77 which was the termonolo

These are just the opening & closing times of the valves, which is a bit inaccurate if the cam is assymetric. Today we usually talk in advertised duration times like 268 or 28

In all honesty do the sums and it would almost be cheaper to buy a smashed but complete injected VN/VP for $1500 and stick the 304 where the 253 is. Probably the only major expenses apart from the purchase are:
