Hi guys.
Can I start by saying I appreciate the good advice given on this site. Sorry I haven't got the know-how to contribute! Everyone will be considering a v6 conversion for their early-girl Holden (HG ute in my case) especially if they currently have a v8 as I do. Is it true that you can use the rear crossmember with a chev-box rubber mount to locate the standard v6 auto box? Is it possible to re-route the air intake to the left hand (or top?) side so I don't have to locate the battery & a load of wiring? Does the VR have a body control module, or did that start with the VS? I've heard the ecotech engines are better, but harder to get in - what year did they start? Thanks again guys, hopefully someone will ask a question I know the answer for one day! everything else seems straight forward (more or less).

Regards,
The Beige Hornet

The BCM came in on luxury VP models, then all VR onwards cars.

The ecotec is the better option, and for a few hundred dollars, you can get the memcal rewritten by a fellow in Padstow NSW (I highly recommend him) to remove the VATS and therefore remove

Dunno on the 'early' cars as I only play with "modern crap" as some people put it - commodores!

The VN-VP TH700R4 Auto box, also called the 4L60, or simply Turbo 700, can bolt up to an early commodore trimatic crossmember with little more than slotting

If you have an HG the RH inner guard has a pressing where the battery will go and this would be ideal as it would be easier to move the battery tray, 3 bolts, than to rewire the battery to the other side for the V6.

If it bolts to an early Commodore cr

Hi Guys.

I don't agree that the Tri-Matic mounting position will do the job.

AFAIK the TH700 (4L60 & 4L60-E) has a similar mount position to the TH350, V8 Powerglide & Saginaw etc. In otherwords it's further forward but lower down than the Australia

Wouldn't the HK-T-G have variations in mounting holes for the trans x-member?

I know with the commodore one you slot the centre holes for the mount, and then the holes in the end of the x-member line up with 2 exisiting holes in the chassis rails. Com

Hi Mick.

Yes, the HT/HG is similar in that there are various available holes fore & aft, to bolt the crossmember to. But, the TH350/700 mount is physically lower, so you use a different (lower) crossmember.

if that is so then you would be able to use the HK 307 step domn piece on a trimatic crossmember, as the 307 crossmember was the same as 6 cylinder.

this would make life easy for many. Just need one to dimension up.

Thanks guys. I have a mate with a 350 box in his HT. He had to remove a section of the pressed brace under the floor, in the trannie tunnel, for clearance - does anyone know if this is instead of using the lowered x-member? I used to have all kinds of x-m
