Hi all,
I just purchased a used 308 from a hz statesman and was considering swapping the motor myself which I thought would be great experience. I have never done this before and was wanting to know if there are any tips on removal/install before I attempt such a job? Or should I just give it to the mechanics? The current setup is 308/dual fuel with turbo 400 on my hz tonner.
Any thought, advice would be greatly appreciated, would love to give my brand new block and tackle some use :)

ok the easiest way to do it is leave your gearbox on and pull it all out at once and change it over on the ground + its alot eaiser if u use a engin crain as u will need to move the engin away from the carif u are changeing box on the ground and once u ha

Thanks for your post Damo, im gonna try your way by leaving the auto on which sounds much easier! I might hire an engine crane then, looking forward to completing this!

Be careful of using an unknown gearbox. If the one in your tonner is good re-use it. Another piece of advice. If the replacement 308 doen't have brass welch plugs, change the ones behind the flex plate as it's an engine out job to change them if they lea |

Thanks Byron for your info, the TH400 im currently using seems to be in great shape so ill be using that. I'll find out now about the torque convertor seal, is it obvious to find? Would it be similar to a trimatic if i look in a gregory repair book for it

Same spot, same seal even. Looks similar to a harmonic balancer seal. You have to pull the torque converter out and it's right there in front of you. Just put a bit of ATF on the new one before putting the torque converter back. And be careful when re-ins |
