Can anyone tell me how to read the VIN plate on my XP? Whilst I can read the numbers and letters, I don't know what they mean.

Try this site, it gives you most of the information. the rest of the codes are in the workshop service manual, they sell on ebay for about $45. http://www.fomoco.com.au/ID.html

The top row is not used to identify the car:
No 1. Serial Prefix - Company user only
No 2. Serial Numbers - Unit number off the assembly line
No 3. SIDO Number - Dealer order number
The bottom row is important to us:
No 4. Model
