hi, i have a problem with my ZL Fairlane, it keeps lossing water outa the cooling system!

i dont know where it is coming from, atone stage, it was coming from the Heater box, so i had that ripped out and replaced, then the problem became less noticable. that was about 4months ago, n now i am loosing water faster!

i have checked all the hoses, they all join up properly, with no signs of water damage or anything.

in an attempt to solve the problem, i have put a new thermostat houseing on, and a new water pump...

Its not going intot he engine, the oil isnt emulsified on the oil cap, n the oil is fairly clean (recently changed)

ima runing outa ideas of wot the problem can be...

Does anyone else have any ideas?

thx

Depending on the amount of kilos on the engine it may be going thru the head gasket and getting into the combustion chamber. Look for rust on the spark plugs. This does not occur to often though but I have seen it happen but the rate of fluid in the cooli

Heya Mark, I've heard all kinds of stories as to what Aussies use in the cooloing system so to put me straight..... are you running only water or a mix? Here in Canada you have to run at least a 50/50 mix with water and antifreeze. This is done even in th

What about a leaking Welshplug? A really small leak might not be noticeable, and may only leak when hot... Just a thought.

i would say it's a head gasket, and the water is blowing into the cylinder, if it's only 2 litres every couple of weeks, it's not worth pulling the head off, or worrying about.just keep on topping it up!

Doug,
some people run just water, which is a very bad idea if you use ordinary tap water. Most run either straight coolant or a mix of water and coolant with an antifreeze, antiboil mix. Glycol is the main ingrediant in the mixes we buy here. If your

Mark,
I was loosing water like you and thought head gaskets and all things bad and expensive. Turned out it was the hose going into the water pump. It was weeping a bit there but the water was evaporating on the heat from the engine as it escaped. Dou

Check under exhaust manifold for any water marks between head and block a small leak here will evaporate before you see it hit the ground,if u can leave pressure tester on for 15min or so to see if it leaks, also as car is cooling down u can get water pump

It could be as simple as the radiator cap not holding pressure. This should be checked as a normal part of the pressure test.

It could also be a slight blow in the head gasket or slightly loose head bolts (not up to torque) allowing some compression to

Hi Mark,

TD Cortina hit the nail on the head in regards to 250 motors. When people replace their Welsh plug's, they tend to overlook replacing the rear plug, because of the work involved.

If you ZL is a 6 cylinder and you suspect the rear plug, look

Have seen a falcon with a very tiny hole in heater core and it was building up water in heater box and would leak out air cond drain while driving sloshing from side to side and when car was stopped no water dripping so all looked ok just a though.
