Hi all, just wanted to check that the HZ V8 sedan salisbury is the large size like the utes? I've got a tonner with 3.08's (large sals nonlsd) and am looking to buy a V8 sedan sals with 3.36 - again, nonlsd unfortunately :(.
I know the diffs will NOT be a straight swap over but can someone just confirm that the gears can be interchanged between the two, please..
Thanks heaps void

Yes. The only "W" series Holdens (HQ-WB) with the small salisbury were the 6cyl WB utes and vans, although I have heard that very late WB Statesmans had them too (which I find difficult to believe). The crownwheel and pinion (and hemisphere if you like) w |

Awesome thanks, and no I won't do it myself - I have no idea about preload etc and from what I gather it's not a huge job for a pro to do so I'd rather spend the $$$ getting it done properly.
One last question - if the yoke has 3.36 stamped on it would |

You would normally be OK, but there are only two different hemispheres (2.6/2.78 and 3.08 up), and all of the components basically interchange so you are not guaranteed until you read what is stamped on the crownwheel. Anyone could have used the 3.36 yoke |

Ah, I didn't know that about the uni sizes. I havene't bothered cleaning my diff off enough to check what the yoke says - just checked the crownwheel. The guy I bought the ute off said he used the diff out of a tonner which had GM9 on the comp plate (I Edited by user Monday, 25 September 2006 1:44:19 AM(UTC)

That is correct. Just use whichever hemisphere is in the better condition as 3.08 and 3.36 use the same hemisphere. IIRC (from doing this in the 80's) it is also a good idea to get the gears re-lapped to avoid noise. |
