I am wanting to install central locking/keyless entry on the tonner and a mate said that I can't because it has solex locks on it. I know those locks are harder to turn and they don't move very far compared to the usual but is this true about the c/locking? Is there anything I can do to get around this? Can the actuators just be setup so they don't need to move the full distance..? Just a thought, why not remove the soltek locks completely, patch over the hole in the doors and paint, then use the central locking actuators to directly move the lock rod without the need to operate any door locking cylinder. (No key required at all)

For sure! I've thought along those lines but am not too sure about the legality of it? To be honest it would be my 'prefered' option - has onyone else done this or can anyone advise as to whether it's legal or not..?

They are called SOLEX locks and yes they will work with central locking . I had them on my old work van . However , if you deadlock the actual lock with the key the central locking wont unlock it .

Solex!! That's the one - thanks for your replies guys and intoit for the myth busting!
I'll probably just keep it as is then and install the c/locking. Still interested in removing the lock altogether though.....

If you leave the solex locks in, then when you park somewhere a bit sus' you can deadlock the door locks to add a bit more security, then lock them normally when around home or whatever.

I'm contemplating removing the locks from my Camaro and filling the holes, and even going as far as removing the ignition barrel and fitting remote starting. You can buy these kits on ebay reasonably cheaply. The remotes are set at whatever frequency you

I agree - when you look at newer cars that have the lock integrated into the handle assy it looks smooth as. Our older cars would look great without the extra 'thing' to busy up the lines..

When I looked into it, the law basically stated you must have at least 1 mechanical means of unlocking the vehicle that is independant of battery power - which means you need at least 1 mechanical lock.
You could get sneaky & remotely mount it under a |
