Hi guys, I was comming back from broken hill to adelaide with 186klms to go ,eng temp was in the normal pos on the guage , coolant, fresh oil , pulled up at hallet for a bite. The motor was idling ok then just stopped with no strange noises, it would not turn over again ,tryed another battery, pulled the starter out checked and was fine. We put a socket and bar on the crank pulley will not budge.
Is it seized or is there anything else that would jam it up ??

Hydraulicing (sp?) the cylinder?

Haven't had this in road vehicle, but a mate's speedway engine did something similar. removed plugs and turned over, fuel sprayed out holes. Turned out the (gravity fed) carbs had floats set too high, and fuel level

Another thing I have just thought of is the timing chain. If that bad boy lets go (depending on engine specs), you may have a valve resting against a piston stopping it from moving.

I have finally got around to looking at the van, the timing chain has broken and is sitting in a heap at the bottom, I could see it through the hole after removing the fuel pump. The motor will now turn with the bar about a quartet turn so she s not sei

You've just experienced what cost Peter Brock the 1985 Bathurst 1000. Make sure you put a new balancer seal in too. You may not need a puller. As the balancer on a Holden V8 is held on with a nut you can sometimes get it to come off quite easily.
