JUST INHERITED A HZ STATION WAGON WITH A LOWLY RED 202 WITH ALL THE POST POLLUTION CRAP. THAT'S RIGHT IT'S A POST POLLUTION CAR...BUGGER.... HOWEVER THAT WON'T LAST LONG AS I WANT TO PUT A EFI 5.0L,TH400 INTO IT. THOUGH IT HAS BEEN DONE SO MANY TIMES BEFORE, I HAVE A FEW QUESTIONS:
BYRON - YOU SAY YOU HAVE DONE THE CONVERSION, WHATS INVOLVED?
WHAT IS THE BEST MOTOR TO GET A VN/VP OR A VS/VT? WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE.
IS THERE ANY COMPUTER OR LOOM HASSLES TO OVER COME.
WHAT PARTS ARE REQUIRED FOR THE CONVERSION?

hey
I think that you should go for a VN VP 5.0 and auto turbo 700, there is less computer problems with this setup compared to the VR onwards, i put a vs one in my HX and found alot more problems then i would have if i had used a vn motor and auto. I did

I've done it into a WB with a Muncie 4-speed. Easy conversion. We used a VN top end on an early block. Email me and I'll send you the details of what we did. holden at networksmm dot com dot au

is a th700 able to cut the mustard once the wick is turned up. cause the car will be slow development and will eventually get either nitrous, supercharger or both. is there any hassle with putting a th400 onto a vn/vp 5L.

Well the main advantage is that you only have to use the pollution control for the earlier engine, making more power available.

Main advantage is you don't need to run cats, or an unleaded restictor plate in your fuel filler.

HZ's came standard with a TH400. They are HEAPS stronger than a TH700, and a lot cheaper to rebuild. They use a bit more horsepower to run though. The TH400 will bolt to the the VN-VSIII block. All of the bits to fit it are available genuine Holden, eithe

Hi.
What is The Commodore Shop like... I'm in SA, but 3 Grand for a Motor+Box sounds to good to be true, do you know if they will ship products?

Thanks
- Adam

Yes. If you keep the HZ block, you only need to keep the HZ emmission control gear. But as Byron says it's not much of a saving, especially if you run a hi-flow cat.

They're fine. Remember that I said just over $3000. I think it was $3250 or thereabouts. It was out of a one-owner VN SS. They do ship Australia wide I believe. Talk to Darren and tell him you were 'talking' to me.

The other guys reckon the VN has better pollution setup anyway, I would settle for that. The main thing is the later engines are retarded for lesser emissions at idling, but that applies to the HZas well.
