Hi Guy's, I'm bolting together a red 308. It's 40 though over with standard pistons and compression and standard heads (may give em a bowl job and quick clean up). I have two manifolds to choose from, a factory 4 barrel or a redline maxitorque single plane. I also have a few different carbs to choose from, a 600vac sec square bore or a 650vac sec spreadbore or a Qjet off a 308. The diff ratio is 3.08 and she'll have a T400 with std stall bolted up to it. I was wondering what the best cam/carb/manifold would be to suit this settup. Any thoughts?

If it was me, I'd go a Dual plane manifold, Quadrajet, and a Iskydarian Cam with a mild grind. The reason I say use a Quadrajet is, they are a brilliant carby and can be set up to suit any requirement, lean when you want it to be, and mean when it has to

So a mild cam around 214* @ 50thou shouldn't be too big?

I agree with OzChevy, except if it's a pollution red motor manifold. If it's one of those, throw it and the single plane Redline in the bin and buy a KC 253308 manifold. The ADR27A red motor manifolds are a piece of junk. The KC one is a copy of the VH/VK |

Yeah the 4bbl is a pre polution manifold with no exhaust port. I read somewhere that the maxitorque flows as well as a brock manifold.

It will, but it will be no good down low as it's a single plane. Good for revs but useless for everyday driving. Given the rest of the engine and the cam you are looking at the pre pollution manifold and Quaddy will be perfect. See if you can pick up some |

Lots of good advice on this site.A cheap good cam I use in a std build is a speed pro 1803E. It has a .280" cam lift at .050" and 208 deg duration at .050" Isky make good cams and Crane do too,but the speed pro is normaly about $100 cheaper. But with any Edited by user Saturday, 14 October 2006 7:57:38 AM(UTC)
