i have never been a huge fan of the 253 as every one i have come across has lived up to their nickname 'Boat Anchor'. However my mate has VB Commodore and is currently running 186 Manual and want to convert to 253 manual. ANy ideas on best box to use and any quick mods to get a bit of poke out of it?? At the moment he is on a limited budget. Also i have no idea how it was done but for less than 5000 my uncle built and fitted a 253 in his HR and it used to lift the LHF wheel off the ground?!?!?!

If the box in there now is an M20, just replace it with a V8 M20 or rebuild the one in it with the longer V8 input shaft and bearing cover. The 6cyl diff will work OK for a budget build. You will also need VB V8 pedals and bellhousing. If you keep your ey

any ideas Byron on some minor mods for the 253?

Extractors, HEI dizzy, small cam, 4BBL KC253308 inlet and a VC/VH/WB 253 quadrajet. Apart from that the next best value for money performance upgrade will be a 308 block and crank.
