I'm going to rebuild my blue253, Can you get proper 253 head gaskets, or only 308's that are to big in dia around the bore. thus loosing a small amount of compression. And whats the best solution?

Just looked up my HQ and HZ Parts Books and the Head Gasket for a 253 is a different part number to the Head Gasket for a 308. Whether anyone has any 253 Head Gaskets any more is the question though.
Cheers...Dave

The 253 and 308 original steel shim head gaskets are differant. The 253 one has smaller holes in it to suit the 253s bore of 3.625 inchs.I have seen repo 253 head gaskets but not for a while.

You can't get 253 gaskets anymore unless you have them specially made. I don't think it makes too much difference, I just screwed together a fluffy for my son with those gaskets on straight gas and it makes 105KW at the wheels which I was pretty happy abo
