hi guys
the factory Pirelli 185/55 by 15s on my brother's 2003 XC Barina CD(with factory alloys, and yes, I know its missing 4 cylinders but its a beauty!) are rumbling horribly between about 30-60kph and I'm hoping its not the wheel bearings.
I've rotated front to back, no difference, seems to be worse when the tyres are cold. Car has done 43000km and tyres rotated at every service. There's about 5-10k left in the tyres and they appear to be wearing evenly, no lumps or bumps ...
Anyone else had this problem??
cheers frank

Hi Frank,

I have had problems with tyre/road noise on many occasions.

To tell whether it is tyres or bearings, I usually find a road with 2 or 3 changes of bitumen type (coarse, smooth, whatever). If the noise changes with the change in surfaces, it

Try driving on grass that will eliminate road noise.

sorry i will say again it is most likely bearings the noise becomes unbearable and sounds like tyres are out of shape but if the tyre is smooth to run your hand over then it wont make noise ,try jacking the car up and feeling for movement.
