Posted this on another forum but I thought I'd give it a shot here as well. Picked up a 308 this week. The engine number is QT645289, the code above the water pump is 13E5 arrow points to 6 o'clock. Can anyone tell me what it's out of?

Hey Greg,

Do they use all letters of the alphabet on this date code as I know in some other instances they skip the I as it looks too much like a 1. Is this true on these engine date codes as well?

regards

That's correct, you will never see an I in a Holden casting number because of the confusion with 1.

This is also why the VQ Statesman VIN doesn't go 6H8VQ.. like VN which has 6H8VN..., 6H8VP... for VP etc.
They deliberately didn't use Q because of con

Holden don't use an I in casting dates, BUT Chev did in the 60's. Makes it a bit confsuing. Plus Holden also used US date formats on V8 blocks up to 1972 eg 12/5/71 is E121 whereas 12/5/73 is 12E3. Just helps to further confuse us.

And the V6 commodore motors - being US sourced initially, reverted back to the US date format.
