Hi folks, I am pulling the diff out of my ZD (Borg warner with drums) and I'm a bit stumped as to how to disconnect the park brake cables from the backing plate on the diff. There is a spring steel expanding clip/collar on the inner face of the backing plate that seems to hold the cable but there is also a pressed metal nut on the cable itself on the outer face of the backing plate. Do I turn the nut (which doesn't seem to do much) or concentrate on compressing the spring steel collar to fit it back out through the backing plate?
Thanks

Been a few years since I did this. I could be way off but I think you have to loosen the tension on the cable first. There is an adjuster up towards the front of the car where the cable loops around and is connected to the hand brake handle set up. I t

Hello 6pak Yes once you have unhooked the inner cable from the lever inside the drum assembly you squeeze that collar as you jiggle & pull the cable out. I use a screwdriver to push the fingers one at a time.

Unfortunately this sounds simpler than it

Thanks for your input guys. I ended up slipping a 14mm ring spanner over the cable to compress those spring steel fingers. I could then just manipulate the steel fingers using the leverage of the spanner whilst pulling on the cable from the other side.

A TIGER SNAKE!!!!!!!!! And here I was worried about the odd redback spider. As if there weren't enough challenges thrown at you getting this job done. Hope the bark you lost grows back quickly mate.
