Can anyone help confirm if a 1974 HQ 4dr I recently discovered is a genuine GTS or not? It has a GTS "8Q69" VIN plate and the ID plate shows a body number that matches the VIN sequence number while also showing a Monaro trim code. All this said, it looks as though these plates have been removed and re-fixed to the car at some stage in it's life and I'd be keen to know if there is anyway of linking them to the compliance plate or the actual body/chasis?
What numbers are supposed to match? Is the chasis number on the bottom right of the compliance plate supposed to match either the number punched into the firewall or the body number? Does the body number appear anywhere on the car other than on the ID plate? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Cheers.

The body no should be part of the VIN and the chassis no should be on the ADR plate.
There is no way to link a chassis no to a body no without the Holden records.
8Q69 is a GTS sedan.

Hi Bitza,
Dont want to rain on the parade, but there are a few things to realise.
The GTS 4 door is basically a Kingy with options. The 8Q69 (oct 72-Aug 75)does NOT mean its a GTS outright and does need matching to the correct trim codes to make it

As John says, a 4 door GTS is just a Kingswood with XV4 or XW8 options, basically just GTS gear. Pretty much just like a HQ Sandman is a Belmont (or rare Kingswood ute) with GTS bits. If the body is replaced with another Kingswood body then so what. This |

Cheers guys, thanks for the info. So from this am I right in saying that the number punched in the firewall does not correspond to any other number and does not have to match the number in the bottom right corner of the compliance plate for the car to be

That is correct. the number on the ADR plate is the Chassis number. The one on the skinny plate is the VIN (the suffix minus the last letter of which is the PSN), and the one on the BODY plate is the BODY number which for some models, plants and body shap |

Cheers Byron, really appreciate the help.......With all of this info, I reckon I'll try to pick it up for restoration as although tired in a few areas, it is at least complete and appears to be an original 4dr GTS.

if the build sequence number matches the VIN, you can check the chassis number from the compliance plate against the actual chassis number. As long as the chassis has not been replaced at some stage, those two numbers should match. For a 74 HQ should st
