All

My mate just bought one of these, and I'm trying to help him from afar at the moment. Car has been flawless for the short time he's had it, except it has been displaying what may be worrying behaviour. Once it's hot, if it's parked for 10-15 minutes and started again, the oil light stays on for an extended period. There is absolutely no engine noise, rattles etc during that period. The car is immaculate, 71,000kM, one owner, always serviced, run on 10W-30 Mobil 1 as per HSV specifications. Apparantly the rings were replaced at almost new as even though this is a C4B engine, it still had the early genIII problems.
Is this a known problem ie crook pressure switch?
Does anyone know if there is anywhere on the 300kW GenIII to hook up a pressure gauge?
I'm also going to get onto HSV today to see if they suggest trying a thicker oil like 10W-40, or know if this is a common problem.

Hi Byron.

The oil pressure switch on the Gen 3s isn't a switch as such, it's a 3-pin potentiometer. It varies with oil pressure & talks directly to the engine ECU & thru the CAN-BUS talks to the instruments.

To cut a long story short, these can be c

Thanks Terry. I can see me trying to explain this to him over the phone.... I think his best bet initially is to hook up an old fashioned pressure guage to ease his mind. Any suggestions as to where to hook it up to?

Hi Byron.

The oil sender is in a similar spot to the SBC, at the back of the valley. Pull the plastic engine cover off & you will see the sender connector. Remover the sender & go in there.
