Hi Guys,

Yesterday my shift control lever (gear stick) decided to break on me. One of the plates that is welded to the gear stick broke completely off. This may sound confusing, so I have taken some (not so) happy snaps.

What it should look like:

What mine now looks like:

I was wondering how well these will take to being re-welded. Should I try an get it fixed or source a replacement? Which I imagine would be impossible because I can't see anyone willing to separate a selector. I rang around a few local wreckers this morning and nobody had one, or a complete selector unit, and wanted around $400 for a new complete selector unit (which I'm not too keen to pay!)

Would anybody on here have a stick kicking around to suit that they would be willing to sell me? It doesn't have to be the bench seat variety (like mine) as my car has buckets. Failing that, does anybody know anyone in Tassie that is reputable for fixing these sort of things? I can't imagine it would be rocket science. Its just that I can't weld (very well).

Feel free to PM or email me.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Nic

Hi there
I had a similar failure on my HZ tonner. It was fixed by welding and has been OK for years.Work was done by a professional, I think they used TIG but I'm no expert so don't quote me!

Yep Tig welding for high strength parts, whats the rest of the gearbox like. Maybe it's telling you time for a rebuild or exchange.
