Hi all,

Well I had a Barry yesterday while working on my EA wagon.

It has had a couple of leaking welsh plugs for a while and I finally got sick of having to top up the water everyday.

I got stuck in and replaced all of the welsh plugs and when I was putting the exhaust manifold back on I had an issue with one of the bolts.

This particular bolt seemed a fair bit harder than the rest to install but rather than take it back out and investigate it I decided (against my better judgement) to persevere.

Well anyway, I filled it up with water and checked for leaks. I then noticed a small trickle of water coming from the head gasket area and running down the side of the block.

I took it for a test run and after about 15 minutes it developed a miss at idle.

I called it a night and this morning I went out to investigate.

It wouldn't even turn over. I knew immediately what had happened. I had cracked the head and the water had slowly filled the cylinder with water over night and it was in hydraulic lock.

I pulled a couple of spark plugs out and cranked it over. Number 1 cyclinder let fly with a very impressive stream of water.

Doh!!!

Has anyone had a cylinder head replaced on one of these in Adelaide.

I would be greatly interested in your experiences including the overall cost and who you would and would not recommend to do the job.

I am honestly not sure if it is worth it though. The car cost $5000 and has served me very well for 5 years. I think I'll go out this week and pick up something else and hope it lasts as long.

regards
Darren

Hey buddy could be a very expensive fix, there is a lot of labour involved & also if you hydrolic locked it sometimes that's enough to slightly bend a conrod. Think you got a pretty good run out of it though.

Yep, I found the original receipt and found that I only paid $4000 for it so that's even better than I thought.
I ended up selling on ebay for $435 to a bloke who lives just around the corner.
He wasn't sure what he was going to do with it but he bought
