1. When did Holden (not HDT) start to produce SS commodores? Was it the VL?
2. What was the first Holden to wear the SS badge? I always thought it was the HQ but NZ classic car mag said it was the Torana. For some reason SS Torana never entered my mind.

The 1st factory ss commodore was a VH . the 1st SS was a HQ in 1972

I knew Brocky produced early ss commies but never saw any reference to a GMH factory ss until the split between Brock and Holden with the VL Group A SS and the VL Group A SS plus pack.

It's a fallacy that brock did the VH SS. The base SS was done by holden, and this was available for purchase.
However, if you wanted to option it up with HDT's Group 1, 2, or 3 packages, then it want to HDT.
