Hey guys, I have just bought a second hand power steering kit to fit to my 308 HQ. This seems a pretty simple job of just mounting the pump and pulley, pulling off the manual steering box, replacing it with the power box and then hooking up the hoses and belt. Are there any other specific things or common problems I need to be aware of in doing this job? Is there an easy way of making sure the new steering box and the rest of the steering system are set to the same turning circle? Any advice would be great. Cheers, Greg

IIRC you also need the longer steering arms off a power steered HQ or manual steered HZ.

Make sure the box is centred in its travel when you put the Pitman Arm on.
You should already have the shorter steering arms (from tierod to wheel hub) as yours is an HQ. Just make sure they measure about 90mm from the centre of the tierod mount hole t

I'll measure the steering arms when I get home this arvo to check the length......but just to confirm are we agreed it is the short ones I need? I was sold the kit as being everything I'd need so I'll be dark if I have to go and get longer arms. CHeers,

Hi Guys.
You definitely need the shorter steering arms for any HQ to WB power steer car.
The other thing is to make sure that the p/st steer box is exactly in its centre position, when the steering wheel is straight ahead. This might sound silly but |

being an hq it should have the short steering arms to start with....unless of course they have been changed... |

Dont forget that there are differant camber etc... for power steer than manual steer.

Also make sure you have the rubber coupling from on the input shaft of the power steering box, they are a larger input shaft.
