Hi, My HQ Ute (Belmont) has a short black stubby radio aerial, about 10 inches long, made of flexible rubber. It has deteriorated and leaves black stuff over anything it touches. (Mounted on the left in front of the windscreen, not on the roof.) My question is, were these an original item, or has it been added after market? I have seen them around on other early Holdens... if they were original, I'll try to track one down to replace it, and keep it stock. Otherwise, I think I'll pick up one of the longer chrome ones, like is on my Torana. Thanks for any advice. Cheers, Jason. Edited by user Tuesday, 14 November 2006 10:36:34 PM(UTC)

Hi Jason.
No, these stubby black ones are not original, all Air-Chief aerials are chrome-plated or stainless steel.

Thanks Dr Terry.
I suspected as much - it's a Belmont afterall, and more than likely didn't even come with a radio originally.
I'll fit an repro chrome or stainless one.
Cheers, Jason.

G'day Jason,
Those aerials were popular in the late 60s / early 70s as they did not break as easily as the stainless ones. I still have one sitting in its plastic wrapper if you still want to replace yours.

Hi Jason.
When the HQ series was released, a car radio wasn't standard on any model, even the Statesman Deville.

Hi Jason,
I have a 5 stage (I think) lock-down aerial from the Qute that I'll be replacing with an electric one.
If you're intersted, you can have it REAL cheap. Send me an E-mail to remind me... :-)
Cheers...Dave
