I've just put on an aftermarket oil pressure guage and a temperature guage for my 060 block 308 with stage 2 cam and I just want to get an idea of what the oil pressure and temperature should be.

The oil pressure is around 40psi at idle and hovers between 60 and 80psi while i'm driving.

I need to replace my temperature sender as I know it's reading high. It's up over 40 degrees first thing in the morning before it settles around 100 degrees (up to 110 if it's a hot day or I'm in traffic). I was told

What should a healthy 308 be running at?

Thanks

Your temperature should, ideally, be between 80 and 90 degrees C.

For a Holden V8 at normal operating temp, the oil pressure should be 7 - 10 psi at idle and around 30 psi (from memory) at normal driving revs.

Thanks Qute. How do I go about getting my oil pressure down? Is it a case of having over filled it?

I usually work on at least 20 psi per 1000rpm (max of around 80)

The things to watch for are oil pressures which vary wildly with rpm, that "pulse", or that drop dramatically, suddenly.

If it varies wildly with RPM, it can indicate that you have an

Hi Rob,

What Jabba said above.

Just make sure you are using the correct senders for the gauges and they are fed by the correct volts and earthed properly before you go spending heaps of dollars on fixing stuff that ain't broke...

Well that sounds pretty ordinary, I've got the right sender for my oil guage but it does jump up and down rapidly with rpm. I'll double check to make sure it's all earthed properly but i'm pretty sure it's all ok.

The engine does run well and I had it
