After removing the timing cover which had a 4 inch crack in it, I found the chain broken in pieces, the top and bottom cogs with damaged teeth, the piece behind the top cog was broken in 3 pieces and to top it of the front of the cam was sheared off !ouch.. The good news is that the crank can be turned around with no appearant damage or strange noises and pistons can be heard hissing pressure when turned over. I`m glad it broke while stopping in a town !

Yep, a new cam, lifters and timing chain set. Advance the new timing chain set about 2 degrees to allow for chain stretch as it wears in. Hopefully your valley isn't too badly corroded as it's amazing how well a corroded one seals but will never seal agai |

And please, please, please replace the lifters with the cam.
The ONLY time that it is acceptable to leave lifters in is if you are using roller lifters and cam.
You have to take them out anyway to replace the cam, and to re-use is extremely false |

When you get a new cam, it should have lifters with it. nice fresh cam, nice fresh lifters, new timing chain, should run like a dream.
