Hi,
I'm wondering if there is a better converter than the OHG X-1 to run in conjuction with an IMPCO 425+4bbrl throttle body?
Ive had this combo running for years on my mild 253 Torana, gas only conversion but was never happy with low rev range driverbility or the 8 battery sacrificing cold cranks it requires to start.
I have installed new diaphrams and springs in the past but these only provided small improvements and where only short lived once the diaphrams stretched and the springs settled.

Should I consider using an Airod 3 stage converter or wont this combo work?
Any suggestions, anyone please?

Gas mixer itself may be too big for engine, impco have a formula to calculate mixer size to engine air flow.

if it ain't broke we can improve it.

Will work fine on many motors I had 1x425 on 454 chev,
but due to size on smaller motors not enough vacuum down low which causes hard starting, low venturi speed.

if it ain't broke we can improve it.

Yes i suppose it especially doesnt help when there is a performance camshaft involved with far more valve overlap resulting in even lower cranking vacuum.
While i have an electromagnetic primer punching the diaphram on the X-1 it has no guts. I usualy ne

I had a B2 on my VN. Went OK. It was an early conversion so didn't have a primer. There is a plug on the convertor that is 1/8 gas thread. I connected a copper pipe to it via a spare gas solenoid that was activated by a switch. It then went into

Thanks for the info and offer Steve.

BluHJ, I also have a cranking activated solenoid vacuum pipe to the throttle body similar to what you described but it no effect. It created no more vacuum than was present in the venturis thus had no effect to sta

Fuzzy

My solenoids were electric. I just held the momentary on switch for about 5 or so seconds and pressed the throttle. The pressure of the gas made it's own way to the inlet and filled it up with gas. It fired almost straight away. When I fir

Sorry forgot to add my vacuum solenoid was also electric but power was only supply via the ignition switch when cranking.
