with my HZ 253 (red), can I fit VN heads to it, do I need to machine the block for the valve clearance or will the std VN heads sit straight on. Reason being I want to do away with the carbie setup and run a custom efi & manifold.
Has anyone done this and were there any hitches?

I always wanted to do this myself, but I like a V8 to sound like one. Especially under the bonnet.
I believe the heads and manifold will bolt str8 on, BUT, you may have to pull the donk apart for piston-valve clearance. So shaved pistons may be needed

I thought about that but what I want is that tough look, I don't like the look of that new efi. I want the 8x trumpets. I was going to do it using 4x quad webbers untill I got the price for the carbs, so efi is the go.

The heads will fit on no probs, the valves arn't too much of a problem depending on how much lift you have on the cam. .500" is fine, could probabley use a bit more but remember that the valves will be shrouded badly because of the bore. Too much lift t

Also, don't forget you'll have to change your cam for an EFI one (different valve order on the VN and later V8's) and also change your exhaust manifolds/extractors.
Cheers...Dave

Ahhh...now theres a trap, I was going to replace the cam but never thought about the different valve order.
Dave you're a life saver!!! I suspect I can pick up a set of extractors for the VN pretty easy.
Thanks sooo much Dave.
Cheers Darren

And If Im not mistaken, All Cams available are rollers! There bloody dear little buggers too. $500 just for a cam, $700 for the Kits on some.
The VN Heads are pretty good flowing Heads. If I recall strait out of there Box they can flow up there of 500H |

And just remember when it dies in the ass at some out of the way place, you know how to fix it right ? Just go over to Kmart and get some spare parts. Thats why basic motors work.
Just increase the mix on the 2 strommie/quad idle circuits...increase t

only VT/VSIII engines are roller cam. VN - VS are all flat tappet hydraulic cams like any other 253/308.

Is that true Dylan? I was thinking that the Rollers came out way before the VS? - Still Hydraulics. Or was it the VN SV5000 twin TB's a Roller? Dan Never stop being inspired, You may never realize your full potential. Edited by user Wednesday, 15 February 2006 6:19:46 AM(UTC)
