based on the great topics that have been on building up 186s etc I have put up a post on my engine buildup. i will be running a manual behind the engine.

I am basically trying to get a good revy motor that looks reletivwly stock, is cruisable but at the same time can beat those annoying falcon/commodore (with rear wing types) that always try to race you.

so far my base is
308 turbo pattern block, decked and bored 60 thou (unfortunately)
new bearings etc through whole engine
rods and crank (standard) tested, matched and reground
acl flat top pistons and kit in bottom end
crow cams cam (5616 is the model)
vn heads with oversize values and hardened springs
redline manifold to suit
new timing gear, harmonic balancer etc
barry grant 750 demon carby
holley blue fuel pump
msd ignition, coil and dizzy etc
new starter motor
high volume oil pump
pacemaker extractors

i was planning on
high volume sump
electric water pump
new alternator
roller rockers (do i need molley rods)

if anyone has any comments, things i could improve or ideas as to how good or bad this setup will be that would be great. =)

cheers

ashley

Ashley.

Sounds like a strong engine. From years of playing with Holdens, the only piece of advice I would give you is that 'you can't beat cubic inches'. The engine you have posed will be very strong, and sweet. But it most likely will get beaten in a

Cheers guys.

The engine has been largely built at this stage.

Byron i didnt go for the stroker as I had heard that they can have more reliability issues.

As the car it is going in is mostly for crusing Im not too worried about drag racing. Just w

You've done the right thing for trouble free transmission/diff.
I didn't mean you should be building it for drag racing, just using the 1/4 mile as a comparison. If you want to cruise and have good low down power, go slightly conservative on the cam and
