This is my first time posting on fastlane and I have a couple of thing to ask.

Im currently in my HSC year at school and I'm building an EH Holden with a 179 (out to 192) and i wat to go 3speed. Currently my EH Has a 202 this a aussie 4 speed behind it (M20). Peope ask why i want to go back to three, i say i like things original...

Is it possable to put a HQ 3 speed box in an EH and make it a collum shift? I wanted the HQ box because is all syncro. I've been told i can't because the linkages are too diffrent but i want other peoples opinions.

I'll appreaciate and feedback.

Aaron

Anything is possible, however the linkages are different and they do not fit. In 15 years of hanging around EH owners and being in the scene I have never seen a single EH with a 3 speed all synchro fitted. Maybe for a reason. Bolts up easy, cheap to get,

This is where you are starting to not make much sense. You say you like things original! Changing gearboxes and columns is not original, so just put the crash box back in it and drive sedatley. The crash box may well give you 20 years of service. There yo

I agree with Peter. If you want to keep it original (and I applaud you for it because I like keeping cars as original as possible too) change to a trimatic with column auto. Unless people get underneath they won't know the difference, plus it will fit whe

I had a 3 speed syncro box fitted to my EH..floor shift...I actually find if you had the horsepower they were quicker...2nd gear is awesome.

My guess is that yours is an auto body..as a 4 speed in a manual body is a bit of a squeeze.

I think you cou

Good luck with your project.

Not sure how the powerglide and trimatic measure up for size but i put a powerglide in my EH wagon was a manual 3 speed before, had to drastically modify the floor pan because the glide was too big.
Maybe try putting a auto floor pan in might work.

Floor shift 3 speed is really easy conversion and, maybe, practicality might win over originality here? And, an all synchro box is not 'original'!
I put a floor shift in an EH years ago (original box) because it was cheaper than continually fixing the co

You won't be able to make up linkages to work as the two boxes use entirely different methods of selection. The crash box uses the same lever to select reverse/first or 2nd/3rd and the other lever selects which action the first lever is to perform. The

Jeff, I may be interested in the 3 speed shifter, what else would I need? How are the gears organised i.e. 1st > 2nd > 3rd, as I've heard they are all arse about with a crashbox & floorshift.

Cheers.
