I own a '95 EF Futura, 4L, Auto. Six months ago, the car began to 'stutter' whilst going up hills. The problem went away for a month, then returned. This 'stuttering' feels like a drop out of power, then re-ignition. When at idle, the engine appears to drop in RPM and then pick back up... Whilst running, it feels like I am 'pig rooting' (an auto!!!) The kicker, I have now replaced everything from the plugs to the EFI. Injectors have been cleaned and Auto Elecs can't work it out... Has anyone else out there ever experienced this type of mechanical problem? Is it the 4.0 DOHC engine? Please HELP before more money than the car is worth gets put into the hands of an inept mechanic professing he can locate it...

Another wire to check is the one coming off the dizzy. It sits between the dizzy and the block and cooks over time making the wire brittle even though it may look OK from the outside.

Actually now you mention it, I do believe that was actually the wire that caused the problem on mine.
It was a couple of years ago.

Thanks for the feedback gents. If nothing else, I am now more confident in advising the next mechanic what past problem people have experienced and may even narrow done the search. Once again, thanks for your feedback. It is greatly appreciated.

Ignition coil and plug leads r common on these cars from what u r saying. The RPM drop and rise problem sounds like a vacume leak or map sensor problem. check the inlet manifold gasket has not split and causing a vacume leak.Is there a rushing air noise a
