That's new to me. I wonder if it's the same principle as 11 or 12 prefixes for HQ-WB Statesman engines ie S meaning Statesman? This would mean an SVM should also exist. I wonder if that means that there are GenIII's with SVF prefixes? Can anyone also giv Edited by user Thursday, 24 May 2007 5:24:30 PM(UTC)

Hi Guys.
VU is the normal 5.0-litre EFI V8 & SU is the Genuine parts replacement block. I wonder if it's a mis-stamping or an early version of the replacement number series, perhaps combining both prefixes.
Do you have the original owners manual, is |
If at first you don't succeed, just call it Version 1.0 |

Dr. Terry I bought the engine from a wreckers for my Monaro. They told me it came form a VQ Statesman. The engine no. is SVU613051, the stamp on the heads are 10M2, and it has 5.0L on both sides of the block havent seen that before, but havent had much |

I have a VQ statesman owner manual and the engine number in it is VU589882 first rego in 6/90
So this would indicate that the Statesman did not have S in the engine number, but theory is worth investigating considering the model code in the VIN is VS

I've never seen an SVU prefix before, only VU, and in a VT I've seen SM###### instead of the usual VM###### - indicating what Terry has noted - that spare part EFI blocks are S*###### prefix

Has anyone ever heard of a 186 engine number like this one: 186N1978S I saw it today, it looks original. Any ideas on what car it was originally in? It is now in an EH.

My guess is a Nasco replacement 186 short motor. Im not sure how they distinguished between high and low compression though if Im right. Are you sure the suffix is S?

Checked it, cleaned it off with a wire brush and checked again. Definately an "S" on the end - 186N1978S

VL prefix is simply VB-VK Carby 202, in red, black & blue. The actual number will give more of a clue to the era it's from, if you can't find the casting date.
