How ya goin guys ,I rebuilt a 202 red motor with celica 5spd conversion for my LC Torana with bathurst specs to rev to 9000rpm ,i had the flywheel snap and twist and break the bolts ,i have original flywheel bolts but arent sure of the tensile grade of them?I can get aftermarket grade 8 tensile bolts but they have a different head and look like hardware bolts....Whats the maximum torque setting on the standard bolts??I would like to torque them to 95 pounds but they may snap,or go for the aftermarket bolts??Am absolutely confused as to what will hold up to a hot motor????Cheers

hmmm dunno what was standard but its not unusuall for high tensile bolts to snap like that, often happens on earthmoving equip. only fix for it is to use a lower tensile grade of bolt

Fly - did you check the bellhousing alingment, flywheel runout? could be off a little causing extra vibes and stress. I had some offset dowles made when I did a conversion, was out .030" just a thought.

Get some ARP bolts. Worth the money. Probably worth replacing the ones in the clutch as well. I presume everything is balanced well, and when you got it balanced, you told who was doing it how hard you were planning on revving it to??? 9000rpm is a lotta

Fly
Sandman is right about the balancing etc and 9000 is a hell of a lot of revs. At that speed there is no room for guessing and you will need the best of everything in that engine if you want it to stay together.
I have an old edition of US Hot R

Yeh, it's a scary thought to have flywheels come off at high revs, not just for the driver, also anyone else in the line of fire.
I saw one come off a 308 HQ at high revs in a burnout comp. Luckily no-one was injured. Wrote the car off. Even took the g

that is a lot of revs especially for a 202. To be honest I doubt the rpm. And what does it prove? probably ran out of usable torque at 7500. Under NO circumstances go to lesser bolts. Holden did not put expensive hi tensile bolts in if cheap hardware stor
