i recently bought a 97 VS S pack ute n had an after-market head unit n 6inch speakers i wanted to install. i have no idea on how to get the stock cassette deck out?! any ideas? also, where should i put my 6inch speakers? was thinking on the shelf just below the back window in boxes behind the head rests? what do u reckon? Cheers!

Do you have a bench seat or buckets? Big differences in the way it's done depending on this.

OK, speakers first. Your handbrake is in the centre, so you can fit the full length door pockets from a VR or VS (if you don't already have them). 6 inch speakers fir perfectly into them. Thanks heaps for that Mick! Really good site! Just having a little trouble removing the centre console. i have removed the two screws in the storage of the console and have tried lifting the whole thing up n pulling it backwards, with success on the left

You need to pop up the "cap" that covers the gear lever area to get to that screw & it's matching partner on the RHS.
To do that, pull out the ashtray, and use the hole as a handgrip to pull up on it enough to get a screwdriver into the gap that forms |

Maybe I misread it but didn't see a mention of undoing the two screws at the front of the console that lower it down for easier removal.

Alright stereo in(only took 2.5 hours! lol) thanks for the help! next thing speakers. i found six of the easy screws to find on door pockets n around the air duct, yet i know there must be more cos i cant take it off yet! where bouts r they n how many mor

When you undo the screw on the finishing plate of the vent (the bit that closes against the dash) you can remove it (bit of a struggle).
Then pop the vents out of the housing - push on the back of them to force them, and gently use a small screwdriver |
