I am experiencing a vibration in my 1990 VQ Statesman 5.0 litre. Appears to be from the trans or tailshaft - has only just started. Its most noticable at about 3,000 rpm in 2nd gear but can be felt at low revs just off idle in 1st gear. Could it be a universal joint on the way out? Any ideas?

Could also be the centre tail shaft bearing. They usually need replacing after a while.

Thanks Jabba, I'm really hoping my problem is not transmission related.
I had a similiar problem with a VN Berlina 5.0 litre auto with FE2 which I bought new in 1990. It would vibrate very badly in first gear under heavy acceleration. After much muck

There is an advisory out on the NSW RTA web site saying that rego inspection places should pay particular attention to the cross member that holds the differential up (they crack) on IRS Holdens. Especially on 5 litre manual cars. Maybe you should chec Edited by user Friday, 31 March 2006 9:42:18 PM(UTC)
