Were they also both called 5L's ?

375ml is not the same as a Schooner but they both come wrapped in glass.

IIRC, the 304 was introduced in the VK's run so all VL's were 304 CID. Also, IIRC, the 4.9 litre tag was only used on the HDT/HSV motors, Holden always called both capacities 5 litre.

Just to clarify that Dave, Holden referred to the later VK 304s as 4.9L - all through the parts book, simply to differentiate it from the previous 308 (5.0L reference) for service & parts purposes. They also wore unique engine number prefixes as well.
Cheers,

Mick

Thanks Mick. I didn't know Holden referred to their 4987cc version in the VK as a 4.9. That's my new bit of info' for the day :-)

Hi all,
Being a dinosaur, the reason I'll always call a 5L a 308 is because thats what they predominately were, and anyone with a 4.9 drove a Ford (302 Cleveland or Windsor).
To me, the 4.9 differentiated Ford and Holden, not 308, 304 & 302.

Hi Guys.

The whole thing about rounding off to litres has been done badly by the manufacturers, Ford is a good example. When the 302 V8 (XT etc) was first released they badged them 5 litre, then when Holden renamed their 308 to 5 litre (HJ on), Ford ch
