G'day guys, posted up a while ago about the Uni project I'm doing on project management, I've decided to look at the VN Commodore, so over the next few weeks I'll be asking a few questions.

First up, what month and year was the series 2 released? And what were the problems from series 1 that were corrected?

Also, what month in 1991 did the VN's cease production.

If anyone has any general info on the VN I'd be very happy to hear it, not in terms of construction but anythin to do with budget/problems/reasons for doing certain things in the project, basically any of the aspects to do with the management of the project, I'd appreciate it alot!

WANTED: HJ/Q/X/Z van in W.A. pm me!

WANTED: GTS rims, seats and mirrors to suit HJ.

Hi VL05.

This VN series 2 question arises often, but it depends on what you define as being a series 2.

To explain, the VN was officially released on 17 Aug '88, in V6 form only. The V8 version including the SS etc, was released on 14 Mar '89. The '

Technically there is no series 2, the first commodore model to use that term was the VP (although the VQII was the first "V-car")

There was the first round of upgrades, the XX8 as Terry noted, actually appeared over a few months from November 89 thru t

Ok thanks guys so far.

But from reading of Commodore magazines and other forums (I guess by people not as in the know as you guys) it is commonly said that the series 1 had a whole lot of "problems" and these problems were rectified with the Series 2.

I suggest you get hold of 2 service manuals.

VN volume 10 (blue cover), and VN/VG/VQ volume 3 - 1991 upgrade (orange cover).

They will explain all the changes in great detail.

Cheers,

Mick

some problems which occurred in early VN`s were faulty alternators, water leaks , also early VN`s do not have a brake light in the back window.

End of June '89 was when the 3rd brake light came in.

I have seen a 28/6/89 without it, but every july '89 one I have seen has had one.

The ADR requirement for it came into play on 1/7/1989

Hi Guys.

Mick, I use the common industry term 'eye-level brake light' because on VN sedans, it's actually a 5th brake light, not a q3rd, because they already have 4 !!. On the VP they changed this & only had 3 total, including the eye-level brake light
